It was a beautiful day in a beautiful remote little corner of her home known as Fiordland. Many Maori people had visited this land on hunting trips and Zeelandia always enjoyed coming because of how beautiful the scenery was. There was plenty of water too, streams and lakes that lead to the ocean. There were also towering mountains that were covered in snow around this time of year (our summer, being their winter). It was a chilly day, even the child was a little cold, but she didn't let that bother her, the scenery was breathtaking making the cold a little more tolerable.
Kura especially enjoyed a particular narrow river that lead to the ocean. Several steps away from this river was the forest, even closer to the stream was nice tall grass, perfect to hide in. If one couldn't make it to the forest to hide, they could always dive into the grass, though there would be a huge gap where the grass would be making this hiding spot a little dangerous if Kura had to hide in order to save herself.
Despite following the Maori people out here, she was a little alone. She looked a lot different from them, and she also knew just how different she was from them. 'Its been a really long time since I've been visited. They named me, and now their just gone. Humans have already died, and I haven't aged as much as they have.' Kura twirled around in the grass with her arms stretched out and arching her head backwards to look up at the partly gray sky. Every time she came here, rain was expected.
The peace didn't last long though, there was a sudden noise sounding like a snap, it had taken Kura by surprise, it was supposed to be pure silence, and by the volume of the noise, it didn't sound so safe for her. Trying to calm herself down from the shock, the child quickly studied the area looking for an immediate threat. Another loud snap sounded off, this time sending a few birds to the sky crying out an alarm.
Zeelandia Nova took the birds fleeing as a warning that she should hide out until she knew what was going on. She quickly hurried to the forest behind her, scraping her arm against a sharp branch that belonged to an annoying little shrub. She ignored the burning sensation though and continued into a run. 'Maybe I'm overreacting, I should go to the lake anyways. It'll be out of the way if its one of the Maori people.'
Kura lead herself out to the shore of the lake, gazing out and staring at the mountains that towered over the beautiful body of water. She took a deep breath in of the fresh air and then slowly let it out. "Its safer here, I don't hear those strange noises anymore," she thought out loud. The child looked around for another moment and then lied down in the sand, closing her eyes, and beginning to let herself drift.
